Anthropic Launches 10 Finance Agents, Claude Hits M365
Anthropic drops 10 pre-built finance agents and Claude integrates natively into Excel, Word, and PowerPoint — while OpenAI ships GPT-5.5 Instant, Microsoft's Agent 365 goes GA, and Colorado's AI compliance clock ticks toward its June 30 deadline.
1. Anthropic Drops 10 Pre-Built Finance Agents — and Claude Lands Inside Microsoft 365 *(Bloomberg / Fortune / InvestmentNews)*
Anthropic unveiled a set of new AI agents designed to handle a broader mix of financial services tasks — including drafting pitch decks, reviewing financial statements, and escalating cases for compliance review. The 10 tools are aimed at professionals across banking, insurance, asset management, and fintech.
The bigger SMB-relevant detail:
Claude now works across Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word through M365 add-ins, with Outlook support coming later — and context carries between apps automatically, so a financial model started in Excel doesn't need to be re-explained when moving to a PowerPoint deck.
What it means for SMBs / MSPs: If your clients are in accounting, insurance brokerage, or financial advisory, these Claude agent templates (month-end close, KYC screener, general ledger reconciler) are worth a pilot this week — the M365 add-in removes the friction of context-switching between apps.
2. GPT-5.5 Instant Becomes ChatGPT's New Default *(OpenAI)*
OpenAI released GPT-5.5 Instant on May 5, updating ChatGPT's default model with smarter, more accurate answers, reduced hallucinations, and improved personalization controls.
This follows the broader GPT-5.5 rollout from late April.
GPT-5.5 is currently rolling out to Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise users in ChatGPT and Codex.
What it means for SMBs / MSPs: Every ChatGPT user on a paid plan just got a better default — no settings change needed. If you've been advising clients to hold off on ChatGPT Business because of output quality, that objection just got weaker.
3. Microsoft Agent 365 and M365 E7 Are Now Generally Available *(Microsoft Partner Center / Redmond Magazine)*
Microsoft announced the general availability of Agent 365, its control plane for governing and securing AI agents across enterprise environments, alongside the release of Microsoft 365 E7.
M365 E7 brings together Microsoft 365 E5 for secure productivity, Entra Suite for identity and access control, Microsoft 365 Copilot for AI in the flow of work, and Agent 365 as the control plane to govern and scale agents.
What it means for SMBs / MSPs: This is your new upsell motion above E3/E5.
Microsoft extended its 50% promotional offer on Microsoft Purview Suite for Business Premium through July 1, 2026, complementing Copilot Business bundle offers for customers with under 300 licenses.
That promo window is closing — bring it up with clients now.
4. Power Apps Gets a Human-in-the-Loop Agent Feed *(Microsoft Power Platform Blog)*
An agent feed with Power Apps MCP Server became generally available on May 4, 2026, giving users a dedicated experience to supervise agent activity directly inside their business apps.
It gives business users a dedicated space to see, review, and guide agent activity as it happens — within the app, not in a separate monitoring tool. Makers control the approval threshold: low-risk actions complete quietly in the background; higher-impact actions like sending emails surface as explicit approvals.
What it means for SMBs / MSPs: This is the governance feature that makes agentic Power Apps deployable without white-knuckling it. If you've been waiting for a "human checkpoint" before rolling out Power Platform agents to clients, this is it.
5. Colorado AI Act Compliance Deadline: 55 Days Out *(Wilson Sonsini / OST Agency)*
On June 30, 2026, Colorado's Senate Bill 24-205 takes effect — the first comprehensive state-level AI law in the U.S. If your business develops or deploys a "high-risk AI system" influencing consequential decisions about Colorado consumers (employment, housing, credit, healthcare, education, insurance), you are covered. Violations carry penalties of up to $20,000 each, enforced by the Colorado Attorney General.
And the insurance angle is tightening too:
the cyber insurance market is increasingly conditioning coverage on the adoption of AI-specific security controls, with carriers introducing "AI Security Riders" that require documented evidence of adversarial red-teaming and model-level risk assessments.
What it means for SMBs / MSPs: Any client using AI for hiring, lending, or benefits decisions — in any state — should have a written AI use policy and a basic risk assessment on file before July 1. This is a billable conversation.
Claude for Microsoft 365 Add-Ins (Excel / Word / PowerPoint)
What it is: Native Claude integration inside M365 desktop apps — context persists across documents without re-prompting. Who it's for: MSP techs evaluating alternatives to Copilot for clients already on M365; AI champions at accounting, finance, or ops-heavy SMBs. How long a first test takes: 20–30 minutes to install the add-in and run one real workflow (e.g., paste a P&L into Excel, ask Claude to flag anomalies, then draft a summary slide in PowerPoint without re-explaining the data). One concrete first step: Pull up the Claude for Microsoft 365 add-in page at anthropic.com, install on a paid Claude plan, and run your own month-end close narrative from a real spreadsheet before pitching it to a client.
Ask your accountant whether Anthropic's new finance agents could handle the tedious steps of month-end close. Anthropic released 10 pre-built finance agents, including a month-end closer and a general ledger reconciler. Users keep approval over the work before anything reaches a client or gets filed. Pick one repetitive task and ask whether it's a fit.
*For MSPs:* The human-in-the-loop approval step is the trust anchor with skeptical financial services clients.
Don't pitch the Colorado AI Act as an enterprise-only problem.
Most small business owners assume compliance is a Fortune 500 problem. It is not.
If you're building or reselling any AI tool that touches hiring, credit, or insurance decisions for Colorado residents — even indirectly through a SaaS vendor — you may already be in scope. Framing it as "not our problem" is the fastest way to create an unpleasant surprise for a client in August.
Pre-built vertical agent templates are becoming the new SaaS SKU. What Anthropic did for finance this week —
ten preconfigured agents built for investment banks, asset managers, and insurers, covering research, risk and compliance checks, and financial accounting
— is the playbook every major AI lab will replicate for every vertical: legal, healthcare, construction, manufacturing. The implication for MSPs and AI consultants isn't scary — it's clarifying. Your value is no longer in wiring together a generic LLM and a PDF of SOPs. It's in selecting, configuring, governing, and training staff on the right pre-built agent for a specific client workflow. Vertical fluency — knowing the difference between a general ledger reconciler and a month-end closer — is the moat. Start building it now.
