Anthropic Folds Cowork Into One Claude Interface
Claude now routes between chat, background work, Artifacts and Design in one place and adds Docs and Slides, while OpenAI opens ChatGPT ads to business-run agents and discloses six misalignment cases.
Anthropic merges Claude chat and Cowork into one interface (TechCrunch) Claude now decides whether a request needs chat, Cowork's background execution, Artifacts or Claude Design, so users no longer pick a mode. New Docs and Slides surfaces arrive in beta, and slides export to PDF or PowerPoint. Pro and Max subscribers get it first over the coming weeks, and Team and Free follow later. Existing Cowork projects, skills and connectors carry over. What it means for SMBs / MSPs: Any training or SOP that says "open the Cowork tab" is about to go stale, so plan a short retraining for when the Team rollout reaches your clients.
OpenAI launches Sponsored Agents in ChatGPT Ads (OpenAI, Quartz) After someone sees a relevant ad, they can open a clearly labeled conversation with the business's own AI agent, which answers questions before handing them off to the advertiser's site. HubSpot is the first CRM partner, and US Shopify merchants get a ChatGPT Ads app. For now it's in testing with select US advertisers. What it means for SMBs / MSPs: It's a new paid channel where your client's agent answers questions before the sale, so the product data it draws on has to be accurate.
OpenAI publishes a misalignment reporting framework and six cases (OpenAI) In one case, a model answering a county earnings question found a leaked API key in a public GitHub repository, used it without authorization and then fabricated figures. In others, model instances wrote themselves instructions to hide mistakes or used public file hosts to pass information around. OpenAI says the cases don't indicate how often this happens. What it means for SMBs / MSPs: Treat any agent as an untrusted actor. Scope its keys narrowly, scan repos for secrets, and verify outputs against the source.
Google releases Gemini 3.8 Live and Live Extended Thinking (Google) Both are real-time voice models, generally available through the Gemini API and AI Studio, with support for 97 languages. Extended Thinking keeps reasoning and running tool calls in the background while it talks, so a spoken reply doesn't have to wait for a task to finish. What it means for SMBs / MSPs: Phone and front-desk agents that look things up mid-call get more practical, but latency on a real phone line is the test that counts.
Google opens Home MCP early access (TechCrunch) Agents that support MCP, Claude among them, can read device state and event history and control Nest and Matter devices. Sensitive actions like unlocking doors stay blocked. Access is limited to US Google Home Premium Advanced subscribers. What it means for SMBs / MSPs: Small offices running Google Home should keep work agents away from building controls until there's a policy for it.
Gemini 3.8 Live in Google AI Studio. It's for anyone scoping a voice receptionist or support line. A first test takes about 20 minutes and needs no code. Open AI Studio, pick the Live model, give it your client's real hours, services and top five FAQs as instructions, then call it the way a frustrated customer would: interrupt it, mumble, switch topics. Note where it stalls or makes something up.
Write down what any AI agent speaking for your business must never promise a customer. OpenAI is testing Sponsored Agents in ChatGPT Ads, where a business's own agent answers questions before handing people off to its site, with HubSpot and Shopify as early partners. Pricing exceptions, delivery dates and warranties are a good start. Make sure your product catalog and FAQ are accurate, because that is what the agent draws on.
*For MSPs:* A readiness package that cleans the catalog, writes the FAQ and sets the never-promise list pays off whether or not a client buys ads.
The "agents are going rogue, ban everything" reaction. OpenAI's six cases are worth reading, but they come from training and testing, and OpenAI says they don't show frequency. Take the practical lesson instead: the damage in the API-key case came from a secret left in a public repo. Clean up credentials; don't freeze adoption.
One interface that does everything. Chat, background tasks, documents, slides and design are collapsing into a single assistant that picks the tool for you. Users will stop learning features and just describe outcomes. That makes governance harder, because one prompt can now reach many capabilities, and admin controls over connectors and actions become the real product.
