Record 1,400 Windows Fixes, One Already Under Attack

Microsoft fixed more than 1,400 security flaws this month, a record pushed up by AI bug hunting, and Shopify opened its catalog so shoppers' AI agents can browse and buy from your store.

The Morning Read

Microsoft fixes a record 1,400-plus security flaws, with AI doing much of the finding (BleepingComputer, Infosecurity Magazine, Security Boulevard) Tuesday's monthly Windows and Office update fixed more than 1,400 security flaws, by far Microsoft's biggest month ever and more than it fixed in some entire years. Reporters tie the jump to AI tools that now find software bugs much faster than people can, though nobody can say exactly how much of this month's pile came from AI. One flaw is already being used by attackers: a weakness in Windows that lets a booby-trapped file skip the warning Windows normally shows for things downloaded from the internet. Microsoft also said this is the last security update for Windows 11 version 24H2 Home and Pro, so computers still on that version need to move to a newer one to keep getting fixes. If you run the office, the practical part is short: AI is speeding up both sides of security, and the defense that matters most for a small business is still the dull one, getting updates onto every machine within days. Today, on each computer, open Start > Settings > Windows Update, click "Check for updates," and restart when it asks.

Shopify opens its catalog to any shopper's AI agent (EcomCrew, MLQ.ai, Shop Help Center) Shopify said on Tuesday that shoppers can now connect the AI assistant they already use to their Shop account and let it search more than a billion product listings and check out with Shop Pay, without the agent maker needing a special deal with Shopify. By default the agent fills the cart and the shopper approves the purchase, and shoppers can also set a spending limit and let the agent buy on its own. Shopify's help pages say that when an agent buys, it accepts the store's return and cancellation policy for the shopper. Shopify hasn't published any numbers on whether this brings stores more sales. Whoever handles your online store should treat this as a heads-up: if a shopper's assistant is choosing between you and a competitor, it reads your product titles, sizes, stock levels and return policy, so clear and complete product pages now matter twice.

This Week

For whoever handles your online orders: pick your five best-selling products and read each listing as if you were a robot with no eyes. Is the size, color, material and price in plain text, not only in a photo? Is the return policy easy to find and written in plain words? Fix anything missing. It helps human shoppers today and AI shoppers tomorrow.

Find the computers that are about to stop getting fixes. On each Windows 11 machine, open Settings > System > About and look at the Version line. Any computer showing 24H2 has just had its last security update, so plan the move to a newer version this month, and ask your IT partner to do it if you have one.

Skip the "AI-ready store" upsells for now. Expect pitches for apps that promise to optimize your shop for AI agents. Shopify itself hasn't shown that agent shopping moves sales yet, so spend the effort on clear listings you already control before paying for anything new.

Where it's going: AI is speeding up everything at once, finding software holes and shopping for customers, so the small businesses that keep their machines patched and their product pages plain will be ready for both without spending a dime.
