Wix's AI Agents Can Pay Bills, With a 10-Minute OK
Wix's AI agents can now pay suppliers and reorder stock for small businesses once the owner approves by text, ChatGPT can build team slide decks, and the FBI warns of AI-faked election appeals.
Wix lets its AI agents pay bills and restock inventory, with the owner's OK by text (Wix, GlobeNewswire, Stock Titan) Wix said on Thursday that Symphony, its set of AI agents for small businesses, now connects to Link, the digital wallet built by Stripe, so the agents can pay for things on the owner's behalf: a supplier invoice, a restocking order, a registration fee before a deadline. Every purchase still needs the owner's approval, which arrives as a WhatsApp message or a text and has to be answered within about 10 minutes. Wix says the agents never see the card details, each payment uses a single-use card capped at the approved amount, and if the amount changes or a new purchase comes up, the agent has to ask again. It's rolling out to Symphony users with a US Link account, paying in US dollars. This is the first time an AI tool built for small businesses can actually spend money, and the approval step is the safety net. That only works if the person approving reads the request instead of tapping yes between appointments. So before you turn it on, decide which purchases the agent may ask for at all, and which ones should wait until you're back at a desk.
ChatGPT can now build slide decks your team edits together (OpenAI, TechCrunch) OpenAI's release notes for Friday say ChatGPT can now create presentations and keep editing them with teammates inside a Space, its shared workspace. You can start from a conversation, from files or from an outline, and it's rolling out to Pro, Business and Enterprise accounts with Space access, on the web and in the desktop app. When OpenAI first showed the feature in late September, it said several people and agents could comment on and edit the same deck. Whoever builds your proposals, training decks or monthly updates now has one more tool that turns notes into a draft deck. The catch is the same as always: a deck that looks finished is easy to send, so a person should check every price, date and claim on it first, especially anything going to a customer.
Your front desk may get one of these calls: the FBI warned on Thursday that scammers are using AI to fake the voices, images and messages of candidates, campaigns and government offices ahead of the November midterms. Watch for fake donation requests, merchandise that never arrives, and texts or emails saying someone isn't registered to vote, with a link to a fake state registration page. The rule for staff is short: never give money or personal details because of a call, text or email, however familiar the voice. Hang up and check with the campaign or your state election office directly, using a number or website you looked up yourself.
Make a short list of "yes by phone" purchases. Whether or not you use Wix, more tools will start asking for spending approval by text. Sit down for ten minutes and write two lists: repeat purchases you'd approve from your phone, like the usual supply order from a known vendor, and anything that waits until you're at your desk, like a new vendor, a bigger-than-usual amount, or anything you didn't expect. Add a dollar limit in writing, and name who approves when you're away.
Skip handing a whole customer deck to the AI. Let ChatGPT or any other tool draft the internal decks first, like a staff meeting update or a training refresher, where a mistake costs little. Keep proposals and anything with prices on them for later, once you've seen how often the drafts get the details right.
Where it's going: AI tools are moving from writing things for you to paying for things for you, so the businesses that set spending rules and an approver now will be able to say yes to the help without worrying about the bill.
