Walmart Lets AI Agents Shop, With $50 to $200 Caps
Walmart will let outside AI assistants shop at Walmart and Sam's Club within spending limits you set, and Google's Gemini app now has a small-business hub that remembers your brand and reads your receipts.
Walmart opens its store to AI shopping assistants, with spending limits you set (TechCrunch, Axios, KSL) Walmart announced on Wednesday that outside AI assistants, like ChatGPT, Gemini or Meta's Muse, will be able to search and buy at Walmart and Sam's Club through an official connection it calls Agent Gateway, which opens first as a test for approved companies. Starting next month, customers can give each assistant its own profile in their account and choose between approving every purchase or letting it buy on its own up to a limit, with $50, $100 or $200 as Walmart's examples. Walmart says assistants see the same prices people do. Amazon is going the other way and has been blocking outside AI shopping assistants from its site. If you keep the break room, the cleaning closet or the kitchen stocked from Sam's Club, this is the first big store where an assistant could do the reorder for you, and it means the spending limit is a decision you make, not something the software decides. Start with "approve every order" for a month and see what it gets wrong before you let it buy alone. And if you sell on Amazon and not Walmart, expect shoppers' assistants to steer some of that traffic where they're welcome.
Gemini gets a small-business hub that remembers your brand (Google, Analytics Insight, MediaNews4U) Google added a business page to the Gemini app this week with three jobs: branding, finances and customer insights. You can upload your website, brand kit, fonts or colors once, and Gemini keeps that style for every flyer, post or product image you ask it for after that. It can also turn a spreadsheet, a pile of receipts or purchase records into charts and simple models, and it connects to Google Business Profile, Google Ads and Workspace, plus outside apps like Shopify, Canva, Wix and Xero. Google says it's rolling out to all Gemini app users over the coming days, and it hasn't published independent accuracy checks on the finance tools. The practical part: the brand memory is the piece most owners will use this week, because it ends the "make it look like our stuff" back-and-forth. Treat the finance charts as a first look, and check any number against your books before it goes in front of a lender or a partner.
Give it the job, the reader and the goal (Starter · 2 minutes)
"Write an email to a supplier" gets you something generic. Add three short facts: what you need written, who will read it, and what you want them to do after. It's the same idea as Gemini's saved brand style: the more it knows up front, the less you fix later.
> Write a [type of message] for [who will read it]. The goal is [what I want them to do or know]. Keep it under [length], plain and friendly.
Works the same in ChatGPT and Copilot.
What good looks like: a draft written for that one reader, ending with the action you asked for. Avoid: leaving out the goal. Without it, Claude writes something that is polite and goes nowhere.
To whoever does the supply run: before anyone connects an AI assistant to the company's Walmart, Sam's Club or any other store account, write down three things on one page. What you reorder every month, the most a single order should ever cost, and who gets a text when an order goes out. Keep it next to the store login. When an assistant asks for a spending limit, that page is your answer, and it works just as well for the next new hire.
Give your brand to Gemini once. If you already use the Gemini app, open the new business page when it shows up and upload your logo, colors and website. Ask it for one simple flyer and compare it with your last one. If it looks like yours, you just saved the designer email.
Where it's going: AI assistants are moving from writing about your business to spending for it, so the businesses that set limits on paper first will get the time back without the surprise charges.
