ChatGPT and Codex will draw from one shared usage budget starting in December
Starting in December, ChatGPT Plus, Pro and Business plans will share one token-based budget across ChatGPT and Codex, according to an updated OpenAI support page that The Decoder reported on Nov. 1. Harder models and longer tasks use more of it, quick chats with Instant models do not count, and Settings shows what is left and when it resets. Once it runs out, the choice is to wait, upgrade or buy extra credits.
Why it matters to a business like yours
If one person uses ChatGPT to draft quotes and Codex to fix your website, both jobs will now come out of the same allowance, so a long coding session could leave little for the afternoon's proposals. Before December, list who on your team uses both and watch their remaining balance in Settings during the first week.
