Start a fresh chat for each new job
The job: Keep yesterday's details out of today's work
One long chat for everything feels handy, but Claude keeps everything said earlier in the chat in mind. Details from the last job can creep into the next one: the wrong customer, an old price, a tone you asked for last week. A new chat for each new job keeps the work clean.
How
- When you switch to a different customer or task, start a new chat.
- If the new job needs something from the old chat, ask for a short summary there and paste it into the new one.
- Stay in the same chat only while you're working on the same thing.
The prompt to copy
Sum up what we settled in this chat in five lines or less: the facts, the decisions and anything still open. I'll paste it into a new chat.
What a good answer looks like
Five lines you could hand to a coworker, and a new chat that starts with only what it needs.
The mistake to avoid
Keeping one chat going for weeks. If Claude mixes up customers or brings back an old price, that's your sign to start fresh.
Works the same in ChatGPT and Copilot.
