Give it the job, the reader and the goal

The job: Turn a vague request into a useful draft

"Write an email to a customer" gets you something generic. Three short facts change everything: what you need written, who will read it, and what you want them to do after.

The prompt to copy

Write a [type of message] for [who will read it]. The goal is [what I want them to do or know]. Keep it under [length], plain and friendly.

What a good answer looks like

A draft written for that one reader, ending with the action you asked for.

The mistake to avoid

Leaving out the goal. Without it, Claude writes something that is polite and goes nowhere.

Works the same in ChatGPT and Copilot.
