Tell Claude to remember the basics of your business
The job: Stop repeating your hours, service area and sign-off in every chat
Claude has memory: it can carry facts about you and your work from one chat to the next. Tell it the basics once and new chats start out knowing them. Memory is on by default on Free, Pro and Max plans; on a Team plan, the owner makes it available and each person turns it on. Memory is for facts; files like your price sheet belong in a Project.
How
- In a chat, give Claude the facts you'd give a new hire, starting with "Remember this."
- Open Settings, find your memory and read what it saved under Topics. Edit or delete anything that's wrong.
- Start a new chat and ask something that needs one of those facts.
The prompt to copy
Remember this about my business: we're a [type of business] serving [area], open [hours]. We sign emails "[sign-off]." We never [a rule, like quote a price by email before a visit]. Our busiest days are [days].
What a good answer looks like
A new chat that already knows your hours and sign-off, and a Topics list you can read and fix.
The mistake to avoid
Putting private details in memory. Keep it to facts you'd tell any new employee.
ChatGPT has a memory feature that works in a similar way.
